USA North America Inland Services Sustainability

A.P. Moller – Maersk will expand its North America network by 300 electric trucks, making it the world’s largest deployment of heavy-duty electric trucks to date.

Between 2023 and 2025, the trucks will be delivered to Maersk’s North American warehousing, distribution, and transportation business, Performance Team – A Maersk Company. Einride‘s digital road freight operating system and charging solutions will be used to operate the trucks. They will operate as part of the road freight network operated by Performance Team.

“Our customers are looking for tangible actions on sustainable supply chains – not just conceptual. Today’s order is an important step in building our end-to-end, landside decarbonisation foundation while also addressing customers inland transportation pain points. Maersk has a comprehensive decarbonisation plan in motion for our Ocean activities which represent 93% of all company-related emissions. This order marks the expansion of our ambitions to cover all services across transport modes.”

CEO of Ocean & Logistics, A.P. Moller – Maersk

Einride’s electric trucks are built to exacting specifications throughout the United States. The initial batch of trucks will be BYD Class 8 8TT Gen 3 trucks. The partnership will enable the company’s digital road freight operating system to be used on a large scale for the first time. This technology centralizes decision-making by enabling seamless data integration across the entire spectrum of electromobility.

“This is one of the biggest deals ever made to make transportation sustainable, and it comes at a critical time. Not only is the road freight industry responsible for close to 8% of all global CO2 emissions – a number that will continue to grow if cost-effective change is not made today – but you also have a world that is more aware than ever before about the urgent need to shift to electric. I admire Maersk for its boldness in leading the way – for standing out in its commitments as a shipper to tangibly make the transition happen.”
Robert Falck
CEO of Einride

Maersk Growth invested in Einride in 2021 with the intention of being a part of their journey, collaborating closely with an electric and technology-focused player to accelerate trucking’s decarbonisation. The partnership is part of a broader global framework that will enable collaboration in locations other than the United States in the future, and Maersk is accelerating these efforts with the North America order.

Maersk’s long-term goal in North America is to transition to an entirely electric trucking fleet in order to provide customers with a more environmentally friendly option for short-haul trucking.
