Dr George Beard is Head of New Mobility at TRL. He is a Chartered Psychologist with 10 years’ experience conducting social and behavioural research in the transport sector across a variety of areas including active travel and micromobility safety, inclusive mobility, electric vehicle adoption and charging, real-world trials of new mobility solutions, and monitoring and evaluation. This experience includes a current project for the UK Department for Transport on developing technical requirements for the future Construction and Use Regulations for e-scooters, delivery of research for the European Commission to develop regulatory options for micromobility, and previous work for the Road Safety Authority in Ireland providing evidence on current practice and safety implications of ‘powered transporters’ such as e-scooters and other forms of micromobility.
