According to a study by Bruitparif, a state-backed center that monitors noise in the Paris area, a modified scooter crossing Paris at night can wake as many as 10,000 people.

Ear plugs at night may become obsolete though as an experiment to try curb this type of excessive noise from the big offenders like motor cycles and souped-up scooters has been implemented in France. Sound radars have been placed in seven French cities to detect and take photographs of vehicles making excessive noise. This initiative is to hopefully in time set a noise-pollution limit and fine motorists exceeding it.
