Richard Corbett is the Regional General Manager of UK, Ireland and Benelux for Voi, Europe’s fastest-growing e-scooter operator from Sweden. He wants to put Voi e-scooters in neighbourhoods and at transport hubs across the UK, creating a low-carbon transport revolution of personalised travel that makes navigating cities more convenient, cleaner and fun.
Richard is an entrepreneur and business leader, best known for leading innovative companies in the transport industry that innovate and require legislative change to scale. Before joining Voi he was Head of UK and Ireland, at Bird, the US owned e-scooter company. In this role, he initiated and led discussions with the UK government to legalise e-scooters and launched the UK’s first legal e-scooter service in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London in November 2018. Prior to joining Bird, Richard was the Founder and CEO of Eyetease (www.eyetease.com) - a tech startup famed for creating the world's first digital advertising system mounted on black cabs.
Richard’s passion to improve the environment and life in urban areas has if anything accelerated since he became a father in 2017. He is determined to build businesses that create a better world for his son!
“The greenlight for e-scooters allows us to radically rethink how we move around cities. We want to help cities and towns to use their space better, and e-scooters are a key part of that, allowing people to travel on a low-carbon, accessible and affordable mode of transport. E-scooters can challenge the supremacy of the car. With more than 60% of all car journeys in the UK being 1 person driving less than 5km, we have a real opportunity to replace these car journeys with e-scooters and help decarbonise our streets. This is the future of travel in urban areas and will transform our cities in the way that cars did 100 years ago.”
