Vik graduated from University of South Florida with a master’s in industrial engineering and has over 16 years of research, consulting and local government experience in the field of traffic engineering and management. Over the last several years he has emerged as one of the industry’s leading experts in smart mobility and smart cities initiatives.
As Chief Traffic Management Engineer, his duties include oversight of the City's Smart Mobility division including the Traffic Management Center (TMC), traffic signals operations and maintenance, traffic counts, capital improvement projects, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), connected vehicle (DSRC, C-V2X) program and Smart Mobility initiatives. He served in this capacity until February 2020, when he was appointed as the Director of Transportation and Stormwater Services Department.
Additional duties include leading the City's Smart Cities program, Chairing the Hillsborough County MPO's ITS Committee, serving as Board member for ITS Florida and management of daily operations of the reversible elevated lanes (REL) of the Selmon Expressway.
Vik worked on behalf of the City with FDOT, USF CUTR & regional stakeholders to form the Tampa Bay Smart Cities Alliance, a public-private-academic alliance. Vik was presented the 2018 John R. Freeman Florida Section ITE Transportation Professional of the Year Award by the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
