Barry Napier

CEO, Cubic Telecom

Barry Napier is CEO of Cubic Telecom, a company he helped acquire in late 2008. Napier is a seasoned executive in the telecommunications industry with more than 18 years’ experience and two successful M&A transactions to his credit. Napier is responsible for setting the corporate strategy for Cubic, as well as day-to-day leadership, investor relations, M&A and strategic partnerships.

Since acquiring Cubic Telecom in 2008, Napier has relocated the HQ to Dublin, Ireland and selected key industry leaders and innovators to further expand the team 10-fold.  He has also spearheaded the development of key practice areas for the company, most recently including Cubic’s connected car/infotainment initiatives for brands like Audi and the VW Group.

Under Napier’s direction, Cubic became a fully licensed GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) carrier, and has since closed agreements with more than 40 mobile operators including AT&T, China Mobile, Digicel, Orange, iPass, Sprint, PCCW and Vodafone. Under Cubic’s PC OEM vertical, contracts and partnerships with top Fortune 100 tablet and notebook manufactures, such as HP and Lenovo, for mobile connectivity have been solidified under his leadership.

Since 2005 Cubic Telecom has raised approximately $88 million in funding, most recently closing a $47 million Series C round led by Audi, Qualcomm, Valid and the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund in August 2017. Cubic’s early funding partners included Enterprise Ireland, Qualcomm, Sierra Wireless, ACT Venture Capital and TPS Investments.

Prior to joining Cubic, Napier was CEO of Brightpoint, where he led the acquisition and integration of the Irish Arm (Brightpoint Ireland) in late 2003 and led the company from 15 employees and $35 million p/a to more than 80 employees at $200 million p/a in 6 years.  During this period, Barry led the team to ink deals with Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Telefonica, Hutchinson 3 and retailers CarPhoneWarehouse and Tesco. The company was listed by the Irish Times as one of the top 300 Irish companies.

Napier recently attended Cambridge University, and has held board seats on a wide range of high growth companies in the Telecom, Environmental Recycling and the Leisure industries.
