VanMoof’s most accessible e-bike to date features a brand new angled frame with lowered step-in and multiple cargo options.
VanMoof unveiled its latest generation of e-bikes today, the VanMoof S5 and A5. Features that have been completely re-engineered include an ultra-quiet powerful motor, a long-range battery, a powerful boost, and the latest VanMoof anti-theft technology. The new handlebar interface, which is comprised of LED Halo Rings, provides real-time feedback on speed, battery life, and unlocking. The long-awaited lowered step-in A5 frame enables more riders worldwide to experience their first e-bike.
New frame for stepping in
Both new 5-Series frames make riding VanMoof e-bikes easier and more accessible than ever before. The S5 is a slightly smaller version of the unmistakable VanMoof straight frame. For controlled cruising, the high riding position remains the best option. The all-new A5 angled frame is designed for increased accessibility and maintains a sense of proximity to the road. The lowered step-in makes it simple to get on and off, while also increasing comfort and confidence for new riders. Additionally, the A5 offers a variety of cargo options, making it an ideal vehicle for city errands. It is intended to transport an amount roughly equivalent to that of a small city car.
“The A5 is our first one-frame-fits-all, opening up e-biking to a wider audience.”
Ties Carlier, co-founder of VanMoof.
Simple and intuitive operation
The design process placed a premium on usability. A requirement is that even novice e-bike riders feel comfortable operating the bike. The industry-first Halo Ring Interface, which is integrated into the handlebars of the e-bikes, is a new signature feature that provides riders with instant and intuitive feedback. It displays speed, battery life, and connectivity.
“Riding an e-bike should be ultra easy. Thanks to the Halo ring interface our Gen 5 is an e-bike even first-timers will enjoy before ever needing to pick up the manual.”
Job Stehmann, Head of Product Design at VanMoof.
VanMoof’s renowned anti-theft technology has been enhanced with a redesigned in-wheel kick lock, a larger pin, and a new auto retract feature. The bike locks itself with a tap and automatically unlocks upon the rider’s return. With the addition of a new optional phone mount and USB-C charging port, any rider’s phone becomes a dashboard. This simplifies navigation and charging on the go, while also providing a data-rich ride via the updated VanMoof app.
“Only a handful of parts remain from our previous models, the S3 and X3. Every last detail from the frame down to the chip sets and sensors has been engineered for the smoothest, most powerful ride ever.”
Ties Carlier, co-founder of VanMoof.
Extremely comfortable riding experience
A series of minor tweaks improve the bike’s stability, usability, and overall riding experience, resulting in the most comfortable ride yet. The connected ‘power system’ at the heart of the bikes is comprised of the ultra-quiet Gen 5 motor, a long-range battery, and a powerful boost. This intricate network of intelligent sensors and responsive components has been engineered to work in unison to provide riders with an ultrasmooth, unmatched riding experience. Thanks to upgraded electronics, a reprogrammed torque sensor, and a Gen 5 E-shifter, the VanMoof S5 and A5 respond to the rider’s unique pace and movement. The remastered design and integrated technology represent a paradigm shift and were recognized with the prestigious Red Dot ‘Best of the Best’ design award.
